Position Overview - Junior Graphic Designer:

The junior graphic designer supports the senior graphic designer in the execution of graphic design requests across a wide variety of channels, including print, digital, web, social platforms, etc. Under the direction of the senior graphic designer, this role will effectively apply all brand style guides and client feedback to produce high-quality visual assets that deliver on client and organizational goals. The junior graphic designer must have strong project and time management skills, the ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines and the ability to work in collaboration with a variety of internal constituents. Attention to detail is critical in this position. This role will also manage vendor relationships related to the print process, researching and ordering promotional materials, etc. The junior graphic designer may work in collaboration with and serve as a mentor to graphic design interns.

The junior graphic designer is part of a fast-paced, in-house marketing communications team who work to grow awareness of the Wisconsin Historical Society portfolio. This team supports the growth of contributed and earned revenue to further the Society's mission and establish national recognition for the organization.

Primary Duties

  • Be able to lead several projects and execute high-quality, on-brand graphic design projects across a wide variety of channels in a timely manner with direction from the Senior Designer, including print, digital, web, social platforms, etc.
  • Manage the print process for all projects, including obtaining vendor estimates and processing invoices.
  • Research, recommend and source premium items.
  • Source photos and other design assets in collaboration with and as directed by the senior graphic designer.
  • Effectively manage both short- and long-term project workload and workflow processes.
  • Work collaboratively with team colleagues and internal clients in successfully obtaining key information and integrating project feedback.
  • Maintain strict attention to detail on all projects to minimize errors and ensure adherence to brand standards.
  • Stay informed of industry design trends and actively contribute to the creative process.
  • Stay informed of trends in technology, web, social media, and other digital channels.
  • Take concepts and strategic ideas as directed and lead assigned creative deliverables.
  • Be able to effectively communicate and present concepts and ideas with the direct supervisor and members of the Marcomm team.
  • Attend and participate in required meetings.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience across a wide variety of projects.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience designing websites and working with HTML/CSS a plus.
  • Experience presenting to clients and stakeholders a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in collaborative efforts.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate written and verbal direction into visual communications.
  • Comfortable accepting and executing on feedback from multiple stakeholders and direct supervisors.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize projects; deadline oriented in a fast-paced environment.

Hybrid Workplace

This position is eligible for hybrid or remote work. The team is required to attend monthly planning meetings in-person, as well as the occasional staff-wide retreats and gatherings.
