Job Summary
Dr. Jeyapalina's Plastic Surgery Research group has an immediate opportunity for a highly motivated postdoctoral appointee passionate about medical product development. This group has several IPs related to the novel apatite-based bone scaffolds and funding for product development and in vivo testing.

The Division of Plastic Surgery, within the Department of Surgery, is a vibrant and growing department with 15 clinicians and 1 researcher. Our clinical team has a robust clinical practice and a growing research department. Plastic surgery research is currently involved in clinical trials, basic science, RNA sequencing, and clinical translational studies. The division also has a strong record of applying its resources to develop solutions for many unique medical challenges including but not limited to new implant design, understanding healing cascades and mechanisms, coating for functional outcomes, and understanding property-function relationships.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing apatite-based bone scaffolding, developing ceramic 3-D printing technologies, mechanical testing of scaffolds, cell-culture studies, and analyzing data output from a variety of automated tools including MRI and CTs, imaging, and mechanical serial sectioning, as well as crafting and applying various imaging and data processing techniques to produce three-dimensional reconstructions and quantifications of features of interest. The postdoctoral appointee will also combine materials processing knowledge to provide recommendations for additional or complementary testing to provide an improved understanding of the tri-biological relations of these ceramics. Two secondary emphasis areas for the post-doctoral appointment will be interfacing with the FDA consultants for product Masterfile preparation, preparing GLP documentation, student supervision, and proposal and manuscript preparation.
Minimum Qualifications
• A PhD in Materials Science & Engineering or closely related technical field
• Experience in ceramic processing, characterizations, and mechanical testing
• Able to acquire and maintain a VA security clearance
Qualifications We Desire
• Working knowledge of 3D ceramic printing technologies
• Strong technical writing skills, interpersonal, and the ability to communicate findings both verbally and visually
• Medical Materials processing (beyond basic)
• Evidence of the ability to collaborate across technical fields and cultivate productive working relationships
• Background in some data science methods, including experience with Python, R, or similar analysis tools
