Senior Research Specialist

Department of Computational and Systems Biology and the Hillman Cancer Center at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in the lab of Dr. Yu-Chih Chen (Chen Lab) is seeking a qualified individual who will establish and perform high-throughput single-cell analysis and analyze the data using machine learning approaches for clinical research.Due to genomic and epigenetic instability of cancer cells, inter-patient and intra-patient heterogeneity in tumors creates formidable challenges in identifying optimal treatments. To address the challenges, we aim to establish comprehensive high-throughput multi-omics single-cell analysis including genome, epigenome, transcriptome, proteome, functional, and morphological methods. With large amounts of data collected from high-throughput single-cell multi-omics analysis, machine learning techniques can predict patient prognosis and suggest treatments for precision medicine. The integrated approach will change how we understand and treat cancer and ultimately improve outcomes for patients. We seek a creative individual who will develop a cutting-edge research program and lead collaborative research initiatives on the development, use, and dissemination of novel methods from computational, physical sciences and/or engineering sciences to address current challenges in computational and systems biology and to facilitate the translation of basic research into clinical applications. Additional responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:– Preparing and monitoring budgets– Ordering reagents and laboratory equipment– Maintaining Laboratory Safety guidelines from the government and the university– Developing procedures and pipelines – Introducing novel technologies to the laboratory– Coordinating research activity, including data generation, quality control analyses, freezer stock organization and data storage– Training and supervising various personnel– Writing, editing, and figure preparation for grants and manuscripts– Presenting research within and outside university (posters, talks)
