Sports Enterprise Reporter-Omaha, NE

The award-winning Omaha World-Herald is looking for a sports enterprise reporter who loves to tell the off-the-court stories about the newsmakers, trends and systems that make for on-the-court success.

With the College World Series, three Division I colleges, pro teams in baseball, volleyball, indoor football and soccer, and a slew major sporting events over the last two decades - including the Olympic swim and figure skating trials - Omaha is major sports city full of fans who sell out stadiums and follow prep sports with a passion. Women and girls athletics are particularly beloved in the city and state, with the recent Volleyball Day event drawing 92,003 fans to Nebraska's football stadium. In a metro of nearly 1 million, Omaha has a vibrant downtown music and food scene, an explorable riverfront and is home to several Fortune 500 companies.

This reporter will focus on recruiting and the business of sports but will also tackle other major issues. How will the new NIL landscape work for major colleges in different conferences? How has the cost of youth sports shaped individual and team success at the prep level? How has the growth of women's sports shaped a new generation of athletes and coaches?

The ideal candidate loves to dig into important stories with strong reporting and clear writing while keeping a love for the sports moments that give us all joy. Ability to use data, speak Spanish, and provide other multimedia is a plus. This position would be based in Omaha, with frequent travel to Lincoln.
